"Win and You're In" Berth on the Line Friday in Argentina's Gran Premio 25 at San Isidro
BUENOS AIRES (May 24, 2012) – A field of 14 horses has been entered for Friday’s Gran Premio 25 (G1) at San Isidro with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park on November 3. The Gran Premio 25, to be run at 1 ½ miles for 3-year-olds and up on the turf course, is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge, a global series of 73 stakes races whose winners receive automatic berths into a corresponding race of the Breeders’ Cup Word Championships.
The Gran Premio field is led by the 4-year-old Al Qasr, a U.S.-bred son of Aptitude, who has won four career dirt starts for trainer Juan Suarez, and was recently third in the Republica Argentina (G1) on May 1 at Palermo. Bogeyman (ARG), a 6-year-old son of Editor’s Note, has won twice on turf at San Isidro this year, capturing the Group 1 Gran Premio Miguel Martinez de Hoz in February and the 1 ½ mile Clasico Porteno (G3) on April 21 for trainer Juan Bianchi. The 4-year-old Rabid in the Rye (ARG), trained by Guillermo Santillan, won the Group 1 Gran Premio de Honor on dirt on April 2.
Breeders’ Cup Ltd. will provide the special incentives for the Gran Premio 25 winner to compete in the Breeder’s Cup World Championships. If Friday’s winner is nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program,
- The winning stable will have its entry fees into the Championships paid by Breeders’ Cup Ltd.
- The winning stable will receive a US$20,000 travel allowance to Santa Anita for the Championships.
- The nominator of the Challenge winner will receive a US$10,000 nominator award from Breeders’ Cup Ltd.
