Budget Stable
2009 Record: (76-13-10-10)
2009 Earnings: $352,865
2009 Win %: 17% In-The-Money %: 43%
Owner(s): Sydney A. Belzberg
Residence: Richmond, British Columbia
Family: wife, Joanne
Professional Background: Budget Stable got its name because Belzberg operates 75 Budget Rent-A-Car franchises throughout Western Canada
Racing Career: Belzberg, who has been in racing more than 30 years, runs his horses in the U.S. and Canada, and breeds his mares to stallions in Kentucky and British Columbia ... He has campaigned several stakes winners in his orange and black silks, including six trained by Kathy Walsh. Chief among those was Nany's Sweep, winner of the 2001 G1 Santa Monica Handicap, upsetting champion Surfside ... Has had two Breeders' Cup starters – Boundless Moment, who finished ninth in the 1996 Sprint, and Tasha's Miracle, who he raced in partnership with Team Valor International and who finished fourth in the 2007 Juvenile Fillies
Breeding/Racing Operation: Belzberg also serves as a bloodstock agent and provides pedigree research ... He purchased Tasha's Miracle for $125,000 as a yearling in Ocala with intentions of pinhooking her at the 2007 Barretts 2-year-old sale. When she failed to reach her $300,000 reserve, he kept her and turned her over to trainer John Sadler, who had been a bidder on the filly ... Tasha's Miracle was named after the Belzberg's niece, 35-year-old Tasha Montagliani, who died in September 2007 ... Tasha's Miracle was his first horse with Sadler, having been a longtime client of trainer Kathy Walsh, going back to her days as a trainer at the now-defunct Longacres racetrack in Seattle ... Team Valor International bought a half-interest in the filly following her maiden victory July 1, 2007 in a race at Hollywood Park in which she defeated eventual Oak Leaf winner Cry and Catch Me ... Now uses Janet Armstrong as his trainer ... Belzberg bred Breeders' Cup prospect Gallant Gent and sent him to the races with trainer Armstrong only to lose him in a $40,000 maiden claiming race at Hollywood Park in his first start, a race he won.
