Wanderin Boy Deceased
Trainer: Nicholas P. Zito Last Jockey: John R. Velazquez Owner(s): Stone Farm
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=20172

2008 Record: (5-1-1-2)
2008 Earnings: $263,072
2008 Win %: 20% In-The-Money %: 80%

Strengths: Classy speedster has taken on the best handicap division runners of the past few years and held his own on huge stages. Won the Grade 2 Brooklyn and was runner-up in the Grade 1 Whitney, Jockey Club Gold Cup and Pimlico Special (to Lawyer Ron, Bernardini and Invasor). A middle-distance, 2-turn race plays into his front-running strengths.

Weaknesses: Very one dimensional running style in that all 8 career wins have come wire-to-wire. He could be compromised by post position or early pace competition. The Dirt Mile pace figures to be quicker than he has been running in more traditional, longer handicap-division races.

In the Genes: Son of 1988 Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up Seeking the Gold, whose offspring include Breeders’ Cup champions Cash Run (Juvenile Fillies), Flanders (Juvenile Fillies) and Pleasant Home (Distaff). Maternal grandson of 1981 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Pleasant Colony.

Bet You Didn’t Know: Wanderin Boy was one of three Nick Zito trainees to futilely chase 2006 BC Classic winner and Horse of the Year Invasor last year, joining stablemates Sun King and Andromeda’s Hero.
