Better Talk Now Retired
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=20293

2009 Record: (3-0-1-1)
2009 Earnings: $140,000
2009 Win %: 0% In-The-Money %: 66%

Strengths: As classy as they come, the 9-year-old made his mark in 2004 when winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Lone Star Park. He has remained at the upper echelon ever since, finishing second in the 2006 Turf and fourth last autumn. Pure distance horse has a run-all-day style and temperament. Better Talk Now handles all types of turf course conditions, including expansive and tight-configured courses. His company lines are as good as any grass horse in America the past decade, dancing all the big dances.

Weaknesses: Long campaign this year has included an unsuccessful trip to Dubai and a string of losses since last June’s Grade 1 Manhattan. He’s often susceptible to traffic problems, given his deep-closing, methodical style, lacking a quick-burst explosion to get in and out of situations. While still a competitive force at the highest levels, it’s a valid discussion as to whether or not he has another big shot left in his holster.

Bet You Didn't Know: With a fourth Turf start in the books, Better Talk Now became just the seventh horse to make four or more Breeders' Cup appearances. Kona Gold and Perfect Drift top all horses with five engagements, while El Senor, Hollywood Story, Precisionist and Riskaverse made four starts. He matched El Senor's record of four appearances in the Turf. Better Talk Now is second in all-time turf earnings only to the legendary John Henry.
