Racing Background: A racing fan for many years, LaCombe got involved as an owner in the mid-90s ... Brought into racing by a friend and Schultz colleague, Bill Bronstad ... As LaCombe recalls: "He owned some horses and asked if I would like to join him. I said 'That would be great.' I liked horses and I liked horse racing so that sounded like a fun thing to do."
Racing Career: Best known as the owner of 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick, who capped a perfect eight-for-eight season in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Hollywood Park ... Favorite Trick was the first 2-year-old to be named Horse of the Year since Secretariat in 1972. The colt went on to finish eighth in both the 1998 Kentucky Derby and later that year in the Breeders' Cup Mile ... Also raced Polished Brass, winner of the 1997 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga ... Reached the Derby again in 2006 with Deputy Glitters, who also finished eighth, but did win the G3 Tampa Bay and G2 Ohio Derbys ... Another homebred, Slew's Tizzy, won the 2007 G2 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland and the G3 Lone Star Derby before finishing seventh in the Belmont Stakes ... The Tiznow colt recently returned to the races after a seven-month break with an impressive allowance win at Santa Anita on September 26 for new trainer Doug O'Neill. He is on target for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile ... Slew's Tizzy's full-brother, Slew's Tiznow, was second in the 2008 G1 Lane's End Breeders' Futurity and is on target for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
