  • Racing Background: Ramsey was five when his family took a Christmas shopping trip to Louisville and he saw the Twin Spires through the back gate of Churchill Downs ... During his real estate heyday, he developed his passion for horse racing by attending Keeneland, Churchill Downs, River Downs or any track that was open … First entered racing in 1969 when he claimed Red Redeemer for $1,500 at the now-closed Miles Park in Louisville. Horse was blind in one eye and never won again ... Briefly held a trainer’s license … Gave up racing interests for a short time to concentrate his capital on cellular franchises … Ramsey, a successful handicapper, enjoys racing horses of many abilities, including claiming horses and steeplechase horses.
  • Racing Career: Have had 10 Breeders' Cup starters, six of them homebreds; most profitable day came in 2004 when homebred Kitten's Joy was second in the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf and Roses in May was second in the Breeders' Cup Classic powered by Dodge, netting earnings of $1,200,000 ... Cannonball, 3rd in the 2007 Juvenile, is expected to return to Breeders' Cup competition in the 2009 Turf Sprint, homebred Becky's Kitten, 2nd in the G3 Summer Stakes at Woodbine, is intended for either the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile or Juvenile Turf and G2 Kentucky Cup Classic winner Furthest Land is being pointed to the Dirt Mile. The Ramseys were voted the 2004 Eclipse Award as outstanding owners, the year they raced champion turf male Kitten’s Joy and Roses in May, who won the G1 Dubai World Cup the following year ... Roses in May now stands in Japan.  North America’s leading owners by earnings in 2005 ... Won 2008 Kentucky Thoroughbred Media outstanding owner award for most winners at Kentucky tracks in a calendar year, their ninth consecutive KTM honor … Have earned 29 leading owner titles in Kentucky: seven at Keeneland, seven at Turfway Park, one at Ellis Park, and a record 14 at Churchill Downs that include nine straight titles between spring 2000 and spring 2004 and a record 24 wins during the 2009 spring meet ... Also have leading owner titles from Gulfstream Park and Saratoga.
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: In 1994, after Ramsey sold his cellular business, he and Sarah purchased the former Almahurst Farm, birthplace of 1918 Kentucky Derby winner Exterminator and Standardbred legend Greyhound, and renamed it Ramsey Farm … The property has been operated by various leading Thoroughbred and Standardbred breeders for more than 100 years … Ramsey Farm, managed by Mark Partridge, now covers more than 1,200 acres and is home to more than 150 broodmares and the stallions Kitten’s Joy (El Prado) and Catienus (Storm Cat) ... Catienus started his career in Kentucky, standing three seasons with the Ramseys before moving to Highcliff Farm in Delanson, New York, where he stood for four seasons and in 2006 was the state's leading sire by progeny earnings; he returned to Kentucky for the 2007 breeding season ... Kitten’s First, dam of Kitten’s Joy and Precious Kitten, foundered and was euthanized in January 2006. Kitten’s First also is the dam of stakes winner Justenuffheart, dam of champion and 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Dreaming of Anna … Ramseys built a stable of runners by claiming horses, buying horses at sales, and racing homebreds … Have approximately 100 horses in training with Bobby Frankel (N.Y., Calif.), Mike Maker (Ky., N.Y., Fla.), Wesley Ward (Ky., N.Y., Fla.), Brian Lynch (Canada), Chad Brown (N.Y., Fla.), Wayne Catalano (Chicago), and Tom Voss, who trains the Ramseys' four steeplechasers in Maryland ... Through Oct. 19, 2009, the Ramseys were ranked 11th among North American owners by wins with 112 victories from 432 starters and $2,862,341 in purses.
