Icy Atlantic
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=20983

2007 Record: (9-3-2-0)
2007 Earnings: $367,110
2007 Win %: 33% In-The-Money %: 55%

Strengths: Veteran set a course record for one mile at Monmouth in the 2007 Grade 3 Red Bank Handicap, scorching the lawn in 1:32-2/5. Also won the 2004 Jersey Derby over the Monmouth lawn, showing a certain affinity for that surface. Versatile performer from off the pace and up near (or on) the lead if the pace is slow.

Weaknesses: Trailed the field in last in the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Turf, raising serious doubts about his proficiency at 1-1/2 miles against Grade 1 competition. Most likely entered as a rabbit for stablemate English Channel and to give him a target at which to run.

In The Genes: Sire, Stormy Atlantic, best known for producing graded stakes winners like Stormello, Hot Storm and She Says It Best. Dam, Frosty Promise, is an unraced half-sister to millionaire G1 Donn Handicap winner Jolie's Halo.

Bet You Didn’t Know: The Atlantic is hardly icy in New Jersey in late October. In fact, the average ocean surface temperature should be in the upper 50s to low 60s for the Breeders’ Cup.
