In November 2001, Haefner raised $53.7 million by selling 1.8 million shares in the company. He retains 121 million shares, or roughly 20 percent of the entire stock ... In 2006, Forbes ranked Haefner as the 147th richest person in the world and he is now the world's oldest billionaire.

Breeding/Racing Operation: For the past 30 years, Haefner has concentrated much of his time on developing his band of broodmares and racing their offspring ... In 1988, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Trinity College, Dublin, for his services to the Irish Bloodstock Industry and for his contribution to education in Ireland ... The best horses bred by Haefner have been Again Tomorrow, Assert, Be My Guest, Big Shuffle, Bikala, Brief Truce, Irish Bid, Trusted Partner, Dance Design (winner of the 1996 Irish Oaks), Dress To Thrill, Go and Go (1990 Breeders' Cup Juvenile) and Refuse To Bend (2003 2,000 Guineas). He also bred Media Puzzle, winner of Australia's biggest race of 2002, the Melbourne Cup, and Offshore Boom, dam of racing's biggest European star of 2002, Rock of Gibraltar ... In September 2003, he negotiated the sale of Refuse To Bend to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum but leased him back until the end of the year ...
