  • Residence: Hines is a former resident of Utica, Ky., in the Owensboro metro area.
  • Family: three grown children, daughter Lanie Nunn and sons Josh and James. James (Jim) still lives on the family farm, which consists of about 400 acres and about 25 horses and 100 head of cattle; however, the family is liquidating the farm and all livestock, including its horses
  • Professional Background: The self-made entrepreneur founded Premium Allied Tool in 1966 and built it into a multi-million dollar metal stamping company. He also founded Owensboro Manufacturing, Electro Parts and Mid-America Jet … Hines' sons, Josh and James Hines III, both work at Premium Allied Tool located in Philpot, Ky. just outside Owensboro
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: Hines was known for naming horses after his friends … Ron Bamberger, lawyer and business associate of Hines' is the namesake of multiple graded stakes winner Lawyer Ron. Hines bred Lawyer Ron on his farm in Utica, just south of Owensboro ... Hines had been involved with racing since 1995 ... He raced Grade 2 winner Ruby's Surprise and stakes winners Dorothy Ann (2001 Bayakoa) and Elusive Chris (2004 James C. Ellis Juvenile) … Hines' legacy lives on in 2008; he bred Into Mischief, winner of the G1 CashCall Futurity, previously the Hollywood Futurity, vaulting him into the picture for the Triple Crown ... Upon the death of Hines, an 80 percent interest in Lawyer Ron was sold by the estate just before the 2006 Kentucky Derby. Despite the sale, the horse still raced in the Kentucky Derby in the blue and white silks of his late owner … The estate is led by Bamberger as executor and Hines' family.
