Racing Career: Ryerson is best known for training 1995 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Unbridled’s Song, his only previous Breeders’ Cup starter ... Unbridled’s Song was the favorite in the 1996 Kentucky Derby after winning the Florida Derby and Wood Memorial, but his chances were compromised by a hoof injury and post 19 as he finished fifth in the opening leg of the Triple Crown ... “Winning a race as special as the Breeders’ Cup was a great experience. It was the highlight of my career,” Ryerson said ... Ryerson saddled his first Kentucky Derby starter in 1994 when Meadow Flight finished 11th ... Meadow Flight won the Flamingo and Pennsylvania Derby for Ryerson and was second to Holy Bull in the Haskell ... “I grew up on the New Jersey circuit and running in the top 3-year-old races with Meadow Flight created some attention for me and led to me getting better horses and then becoming the trainer of Unbridled’s Song,” Ryerson said ... Ryerson currently has a stable of 45 horses, with Joel Kligman, Char-Mari Stable, Larry Vecchio, former Duke basketball star Bobby Hurley's Devil Eleven Stable, Robert Hahn’s Conover Stable, and Richard Schibell as his main client ... “For Monmouth Park to get the Breeders’ Cup is exciting and to possibly have a horse in it is great,” Ryerson said, “for my family and friends and people who have worked for me and for my owners.” ... He saddled Chari-Mari Stable's Park Avenue Ball in the inaugural Dirt Mile where the versatile son of Citidancer finished seventh.
