Any Given Saturday Retired
Trainer: Todd A. Pletcher Last Jockey: Garrett K. Gomez Owner(s): Winstar Farm LLC and Padua Stables
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=23492

2007 Record: (8-4-1-1)
2007 Earnings: $994,320
2007 Win %: 50% In-The-Money %: 75%

Strengths: After bypassing the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, he became the 3-year-old who blossomed most over the summer, winning the Haskell and Dwyer in commanding style. He thoroughly handled Kentucky Derby two-three finishers Hard Spun and Curlin over the very same Monmouth track in which they’ll contest the Classic.

Weaknesses: He remains a bit of a question mark at 1 1/4 miles heading into the Classic, flattening out badly in the stretch of the Kentucky Derby after a menacing (but wide) move on the far turn. He also just ran once against older horses on a championship stage.

In The Genes: Son of Distorted Humor, best known for producing Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide and Travers winner/Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up Flower Alley. Any Given Saturday is a maternal grandson of 1992 Classic winner A.P. Indy.

Status: Retired following sixth-place finish in the Classic. Will stand at Darley in 2008 for $40,000. After the 2008 breeding season in the Bluegrass, he will shuttle to Darley Australia for the Southern Hemisphere 2008 season.

Bet You Didn’t Know: No horse has ever won the Haskell and Breeders’ Cup Classic at age 3. Haskell winner Kissin Kris had the best finish in the Classic when third in 1993. Skip Away won the Haskell at 3 and the Classic the following year at 4. Other Haskell winners to lose the Classic: War Emblem, Coronado’s Quest, Touch Gold, Technology and Forty Niner.

Status: Darley will assume ownership following the 2007 Breeders' Cup. A decision will be made at that time whether he will continue to race or not.
