  • Racing Background: Schosberg's parents, Jane and Paul, own Pine Lane Farm in Katonah, N.Y. in Westchester County, which is located just north of New York City ... His mother is a major buyer and consignor at horse sales. His father ran a national banking organization, American Community Bankers' Association, and has been active in the racing business. Both his parents have been board members of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders' Association and his father is a past president ... Paul Schosberg continues to work as a consultant in the banking industry and is involved with the African Wildlife Foundation ... Among the horses Schosberg's parents bred was New York champion Mellow Roll ... Schosberg grew up with his sister on small farms in Virginia and New York. He has been around horses all his life ... Started working with show horses in Virginia and worked at the Middleburg Training Center in the late 1970s … In the 1980s, he came home to New York and worked for Walter Kelley before becoming the assistant to Sid Watters Jr. He later worked for Tom Skiffington for 2½ years
  • Racing Career: Went out on his own in September 1988, winning with his first starter, Three Chopt Road, on Sept. 4 at Belmont ... He got his biggest break when Lloyd Bensen gave him 25 horses to train, including As Indicated, his first grade 1 winner … He remains committed to racing in New York year-round and has trained 33 winners of stakes around the state ... In 2006, he won three more New York-bred stakes and finished second in another with Certifiably Crazy, who was the champion New York-bred male turf horse for the second straight year ... For Mrs. Morton Rosenthal, he trained 1995 champion 2-year-old colt Maria’s Mon, who won the Sanford, the Futurity and Champagne but was forced to miss the Breeders’ Cup because of injury ... Maria's Mon, the sire of 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos, was euthanized Sept. 14, 2007 due to complications from an unknown illness ... Took Affirmed Success to four consecutive Breeders’ Cups (1999-2001). Affirmed Success won major stakes races on both dirt and turf and retired with nearly $3.3 million in earnings … Schosberg also trained Hempstead Handicap winner Mossflower as well as stakes winners Sovereign Kitty, Wild Wings and Saratoga Sunrise … After a three-year Breeders' Cup hiatus, Schosberg returned in 2005 with the 3-year-old Attila's Storm, a colt with blazing early speed, who ran a credible fourth in the Sprint at odds of 45-1. After Attila's Storm was injured in the Palos Verdes at Santa Anita on Jan. 21, 2006 and underwent surgery during which two screws were used to repair a 1½-inch non-displaced condylar fracture of his left hind leg. He remained in California for 60 days after the surgery, spent some time on a farm, and returned to Schosberg’s barn in July, 2006 … Attila's Storm earned a return trip to the 2006 Breeders' Cup with a third-place finish in the Vosburgh. In the Sprint, he led through an opening quarter of :21.55, was prominent into the stretch, but tired and finsihed fifth ... In 2007, he has earned a third trip to the Breeders' Cup by winning the Toboggan Handicap and placing in the Paumonok, Alfred Vanderbilt, and Forego ... Schosberg had a very successful summer at Saratoga in 2007, where he compiled a record of 6-8-5 from only 27 starters ... Schosberg is very hands-on with his horses and limits his operation to 25-30 horses ... Schosberg is an avid sports fan, with rabid interest in the New York Rangers and Washington Redskins.
