Salute the Sarge
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=26436

2008 Record: (1-1-0-0)
2008 Earnings: $46,800
2008 Win %: 100% In-The-Money %: 100%

Strengths: He rattled off three consecutive wins to begin his career, breaking his maiden at Hollywood in advance of scores in the Grade III Hollywood Juvenile Challenge and the Grade II Best Pal at Del Mar. A troubled second in the Grade I Del Mar Futurity, he was sent off as the slight favorite in the Grade I Norfolk at Santa Anita in his first try around two turns when he finished a game second behind Dixie Chatter.

Weaknesses: All five of his career starts have come over synthetic surfaces, so he is obviously unproven over traditional dirt. He raced well around two turns in the Norfolk, but the pedigree is somewhat tilted towards sprinting.

In the Genes: His Grade III-winning father, Forest Wildcat, banked nearly $500,000 in his 20-race career, and all nine of his wins came in sprints. Salute The Sarge is out of the graded stakes-placed dam Dixie Ghost, who earned $236,952 in a 25-race career (five of her six career wins came on grass).

Bet You Didn’t Know: Trainer Eric Guillot who has never started a horse in the Breeders’ Cup, grew up in New Iberia, La., in the same neighborhood as Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye.
