High Finance
Trainer: Richard A. Violette, Jr. Last Jockey: A. R. Napravnik Owner(s): West Point Thoroughbreds
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=26748

2007 Record: (8-2-1-0)
2007 Earnings: $177,000
2007 Win %: 25% In-The-Money %: 37%

Strengths: He was at his absolute best earlier this year at Belmont Park, posting a romping third-level allowance win over a one-turn mile in late May in advance of a super-sharp score in the G2 Tom Fool over seven furlongs. At the one mile distance, he owns a win and two seconds from three starts.

Weaknesses: Given a two-month breather following his Tom Fool win, he returned Sept. 1 to finish a very tired eighth as the slight favorite in the G1 Forego over seven furlongs at Saratoga. His only previous try around two turns came last June over 12 furlongs in the Belmont Stakes, and he finished a distant 10th of 12.

In the Genes: His sire, Talk Is Money, was a minor stakes-winning earner of just over $100,000. From three crops, High Finance is his highest earner. His dam, Margay, was unraced, but she is a half-sister to the multiple graded stakes-winning sprinter Five Star Day.

Status: Remains in training for a 2008 campaign.

Bet You Didn’t Know: Trainer Richard Violette Jr.’s only previous Breeders’ Cup starter was Yolanda B. Too, who finished twelfth in the ’05 Distaff.
