Gottcha Gold Retired
Trainer: Edward Plesa, Jr. Last Jockey: Charles C. Lopez Owner(s): Centaur Farms, Inc.
/xmlfeed.aspx?action=media%26category=8%26id=27258

2008 Record: (8-1-3-0)
2008 Earnings: $246,150
2008 Win %: 12% In-The-Money %: 50%

Strengths: With five wins from seven career starts at Monmouth Park, he does have a home-court advantage. He performed admirably in 2007, having won both the Salvatore Mile, a race in which he defeated top Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Lawyer Ron, and the Iselin, both at Monmouth. Seems to prefer an off-track. In the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, he hung on for second after setting the pace; he has a win and another runner-up finish in his other off-track races.

Weaknesses: This former $62,500 claimer has never raced as high as a Grade 2, and prior to his two recent wins over his home track, he had failed to hit the board from three prior Grade 3 attempts.

In the Genes: His sire, Coronado’s Quest, was a multiple graded stakes-winning earner of over $2 million. He finished fifth in the ’98 Breeders’ Cup Classic. He has sired three-time Grade 1 victress Society Selection, a three-time Breeders’ Cup participant who finished second in the ’05 Distaff. First foal out of the dam, Gottcha Last, who was a minor stakes winner who is related to many other stakes winners.

Status: His 2008 campaign has taken him coast-to-coast. His next appearance is expected to be in the Salvatore Mile July 5, in defense of his title in that event. Bet You Didn’t Know: Both of trainer Eddie Plesa Jr.’s previous Breeders’ Cup starters ran in the Juvenile Fillies (Three Ring was third in ’98 and Adhrhythm finished seventh in the ’06).
