Strengths: Is extremely consistent, and was once seen edging Belmont Stakes winner Rags to Riches and eventual Lady’s Secret champ Tough Tiz’s Sis in the Gazelle at Belmont Park. She’s also won at distances ranging from seven furlongs to 1 1/8 miles.
Weaknesses: The only time this sophomore faced older horses was in winning a first-level allowance over the Belmont turf back in May. How she stacks up against the elder class is a question mark.
In the Genes: Her sire, Lear Fan, is considered more of a turf sire. In fact, he’s been represented by eight Breeders’ Cup runners, and all of them have performed in grass races. Her dam, Pretty City, was unraced, but she’s related to several solid runners including the millionaire, multiple Grade 1-winning turfer My Big Boy.
Status: Brought back to campaign in 2008; an ankle injury has her sidelined through June at least.
Bet You Didn’t Know: No Gazelle winner has ever gone on to win the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, who won the ’06 Breeders’ Cup Classic with Invasor, has never started a horse in the Distaff.
