Qualified for the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile via a victory in the Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes on October 6, 2007 at Keeneland, one of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series races.
Strengths: The “now” horse in the Mile division, he’s coming off of back-to-back victories that include a career-best effort in the Shadwell Mile. Physically imposing runner is an excellent finisher and has won a sharp 6-of-12 career grass tests.
Weaknesses: Plied his trade at the lower stakes levels for much of his career, so he’s untested against the best milers in New York or California, much less the world. Purim has run poorly on turf courses that had a lot of give to them, so he could be victimized by foul weather.
Status: Purim will begin a stud career in 2008 at Nathan Fox' Richland Hills, near Midway, Ky. He is scheduled to race once more in 2007, in either the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs, or the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct.
In The Genes: Sire, Dynaformer, is best known for producing 2006 Kentucky Derby champion Barbaro, but has had a long stallion career featuring top-flight turf and dirt performers (Perfect Drift, Film Maker et al). Dam, Kirsteena, was stakes-placed on turf in northern California.
Bet You Didn’t Know: Offspring of Dynaformer are 0-for-22 in the Breeders’ Cup all-time, but he has produced six placings of second or third over the years.
