Strengths: As trainer Bob Baffert has stated, she could be the “now” horse. Plucked out of relative obscurity after racing in Chicago last fall, she’s exceeded all expectations in 2007. After winning the Hollywood Oaks over Cushion Track, she followed up with a dull sixth behind Lady Joanne in the Alabama at Saratoga and then ran an even third to Lear’s Princess in the Gazelle at Belmont on the dirt. Back on the synthetic surface last out for the Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita, she edged the heavily favored Hystericalady in game fashion.
Weaknesses: She must prove that she’s not a synthetic-track specialist. Both of her graded stakes wins have come over such surfaces, and she has only one third to show for her three graded starts over traditional dirt. She’s also never won past 1-1/16 miles. Not nominated as a foal to the Breeders' Cup, she was supplemented for $180,000 (9% of the $2 million purse)
Status: Remains in training for 2008.
In the Genes: Sire Tiznow is the only horse in the history of the Breeders’ Cup to win the Classic twice ('00 and '01). Tiznow's daughter, Folklore, won the '05 Juvenile Fillies. Tough Tiz's Sis' dam, Leaseholder, has produced several useful runners, but no major graded stakes performers. She was a hard-hitting stakes place sprinter who loved to win, capturing ten of her 37 lifetime starts for earnings of $140,750.
Bet You Didn’t Know: Trainer Bob Baffert's only previous Distaff representative was Silverbulletday (sixth as the 8-to-5 favorite in ’99).
