Strengths: He’s shown steady progress throughout his young career, breaking his maiden at Arlington Park in career start number three, and following up with a game score in the Grade III Kentucky Cup Juvenile around two turns at Turfway Park. He’s one of the few horses entering the Juvenile with a route victory on his resume.
Weaknesses: All four of his career runs have come on Polytrack, and his speed figures do not hold a candle to some of the other top Juvenile contenders.
In the Genes: His father, Belmont Stakes winner Victory Gallop, won multiple graded stakes while banking over $3 million during his racing career, and he finished fourth in the ’98 Breeders’ Cup Classic. His only previous Breeders’ Cup representative, Victory U. S. A., finished third in the ’03 Juvenile Fillies. Texas Fever’s unraced mother, Fortyniner Fever, is a half-sister to ’00 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus.
Bet You Didn’t Know: Stonerside Stables, who’s best Breeders’ Cup finish is Chilukki’s second in the ’99 Juvenile Fillies, is the stable of the NFL’s Houston Texans owner Robert McNair.
