2007 Record: (8-3-0-0)
2007 Earnings: $896,330
2007 Win %: 37% In-The-Money %: 37%

Strengths: Claimed for $50,000 in January of ’06, she actually dropped down to the $40,000 level for the initial start for her current connections, but after winning that race, she’s run in 15 consecutive stakes, 11 of them graded.

Weaknesses: Consistency has not been her strong suit. She’s won twice this season, but completely missed the board in her other five appearances, tossing in a couple of clunkers along the way. She won the Distaff H. over six furlongs, but would appear to prefer having a little more ground to work with. She seems to have a flair for the dramatic.

In the Genes: Her sire Elusive Quality, was a G3 winner on turf (setting the 1-mile world record), and placed in multiple graded stakes on dirt en route to earning $413,284 from a 20-race career. Elusive Quality sired ’04 dual classic winner Smarty Jones, who is the fourth leading earner in the history of Thoroughbred racing with over $7.6 million in the bank. Her stakes-placed dam, Sly Maid, earned $109,331 from 31 lifetime starts, and all five of her wins came sprinting.

Status: Fresh off her win in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, Maryfield was offered as a broodmare prospect in the November Fasig-Tipton mixed sale. She brought a high bid of $1.25 million from Mike Moreno's Southern Equine Stables. Maryfield won the 2007 Eclipse Award in the newly created category for outstanding female sprinter.

Bet You Didn’t Know: From 70 starts, Awesome Again (’98 Classic), Chief Bearhart (’97 Turf) and Dance Smartly (’91 Distaff), are the only Canadian-breds to win a Breeders’ Cup race.
