Strengths: Pure marathon distance runner has traveled the 12-furlong Turf trip on no less than 4 occasions in 2007. Ran a solid fourth while setting most of the pace in the Grade 1 United Nations at Monmouth, losing by less than 4 lengths to English Channel.
Weaknesses: The Turf pace figures to be stronger than the UN, notably if Icy Atlantic’s presence as a rabbit comes to fruition. Fri Guy is 0-for-6 lifetime in graded stakes races and has yet to finish in the money in a Grade 1 event.
In The Genes: Son of 1987 Breeders’ Cup Turf champion Theatrical, he’s impeccably bred. Dam, Stormy Squall, was half-sister to multiple G1 winners Royal Anthem and Sharp Cat.
Bet You Didn’t Know: Of 1987 Turf champion Theatrical’s 11 all-time offspring to run on Breeders’ Cup Day, 8 of those have appeared in the Turf. Royal Anthem finished second in the 1999 Turf as Theatrical’s best BC Turf progeny.
