Racing Background: Zannino is a life-long horse lover who worked on a farm when he was young. “I’m not much of a gambler,” Zannino said. “I love being around horses and watching them perform.”
Breeding/Racing Operation: Racing under the name of Circle Z Stables, Zannino has 20 horses in training with Mark Shuman and nine yearlings ... “A friend (Joe Masone, a part owner of Xchanger) introduced me to Mark and we hit it off right away,” Zannino said ... Zannino became an owner in Dec., 2005 and enjoyed instant success with Shuman, winning 20 races in their first nine months together ... Circle Z was also triumphant with its first stakes runner, taking the 2006 Sapling at Monmouth with Xchanger ... “It was fun to win those 20 races, but the Sapling topped all of them,” Zannino said. “It was amazing to be in the sport for such a short amount of time and then win a race as prestigious as the Sapling.” ... In 2007, as a 3-year-old, Xchanger won the inaugural running of the Barbaro Stakes at Delaware and the Frederico Tesio at Pimlico ... Xchanger, Zannino’s first Breeders’ Cup starter, finished sixth in the inaugural edition of the Dirt Mile ... “It’s been phenomenal to watch him,” Zannino said about Xchanger. “He’s improving all the time.” ... Zannino owns 50 percent of Xchanger. Trainer Mark Shuman and Joe Masone each own 25 percent ... Zannino recently purchased a broodmare who is in foal to Exchange Rate, the sire of Xchanger.
