Professional Background: Served in the U.S. Army, then worked for an oil company before joining the brokerage firm, William R. Staats, as a stockbroker. He worked for that same firm for 22 through three name changes. He left and joined Crowell Weedon & Co., in 1970 and became a general partner in 1976 ... At one time, served as chairman and CEO of Chandis Securities in Pasadena ... Has been chairman of the Chandler Trusts for the past 22 years ... Serves as a trustee for Good Samaritan Hospital, where coincidentally, he was born ... His community involvement also includes serving on the boards of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and California Thoroughbred Foundation ... He is a life trustee of Claremont McKenna College ... Appointed to the board of the Oak Tree Racing Association in 2007 ... Previously served for more than 10 years on the board of Hollywood Park as vice president, secretary and chairman of the board. Racing Background: His family owned a 4,200-acre ranch near Ramona, Calif. and horses have been a part of his life since childhood. Growing up in Pasadena, went to the races with his parents occasionally ... First became involved in the late 1960s as an owner with the late Michael Murphy's Impossible Stables ... In the early 1970s, he bought a runner named Hunting Moon in partnership with a good friend, the late Cliff Rucker. The partners paid $3,500 for Hunting Moon, who broke his maiden at Del Mar and won claiming and allowance races. Williamson chose his orange and gold silks at that time so he could easily spot his horse throughout the race
Racing Career: Best known for breeding and racing the late Nashoba's Key, winner of three Grade 1s and whose first career loss came when fourth in the 2007 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. She finished her career winning 8-of-10 and going undefeated on firm or fast ground ... She died in May 2008 in a freak accident at Hollywood Park, breaking her leg kicking the wall of her outdoor pen
Breeding/Racing Operation:Good things come in twos for the Williamsons – on April 29, 2007 when Nashoba's Key and Tiz Elemental won black type events on the California Gold Rush VIII program at Hollywood Park. Nashoba's Key won the Fran's Valentine, and later, Tiz Elemental won the Melair Stakes ... Had another banner day April 6, 2008, when Tiz Elemental and Tiz a Blend won back-to-back stakes – the G3 Las Flores and the Valentine Dancer, respectively. They are full sister siblings out of Blending Element, who was bred to Quiet American in 2007. Blending Element won three stakes races for Williamson, including the 1999 G3 Yerba Buena. She also has a 2005 colt by Street Cry, an ’06 filly by In Excess and an ’07 colt by War Chant ... Has had horses with trainer Carla Gaines for 18 years. When she took out her trainer's license in 1989, one of her only two horses was Yesterdays News, owned by Williamson. The horse won and Williamson has had horses with her since ... Williamson also has campaigned multiple stakes winner Foxysox, winner of four stakes races in 2006, the G2 Bayakoa Handicap, G3 Senorita, G3 Providencia and China Doll Stakes ... Bought Nashoba,dam of Nashoba's Key, in Ireland to race her. Nashoba is by G1 French Derby winner Caerleon out of Grise Mine, a stakes winner in France and stakes-placed in North America. Lightly raced, Nashoba won three races in the U.S. and earned over $97,000 racing in allowance company from 1999-2001. She currently is in foal to Artie Schiller. She also has delivered a War Chant weanling, a yearling colt by In Excess, a 2-year-old named Nashoba's Excess by In Excess and a 3-year-old colt named Midas Holiday by Cee's Tizzy. Asked why he bred Nashoba to Silver Hawk (now pensioned), Williamson said Nashoba's Key is the product of a mating recommended by a computer printout.
