Racing Background: While going to college, Howlett worked weekends on a cattle ranch owned by brothers Tom and John Nerud in Baird, Neb. ... Howlett remembers seeing pictures of Gallant Man and Dr. Fager hanging up on the walls at the Nerud ranch ... Howlett went to work at Tartan Farms in Ocala after college while John Hartigan was the farm manager and John Nerud trained the racing stable ... He put in years of experience at Tartan Farms in all divisions and also worked at various tracks for Nerud ... Howlett became co-manager with Al Roberts of Tartan Farms in 1976 and remained with Tartan through the 1987 dispersal and up until all of the farm property was sold in 2004

Yada Yada was bred by Howlett and Al Roberts in the name of H&R Stable ... Through Janie Roper, agent, Howlett sold Yada Yada for $3,000 in foal to Eltish at the 2005 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's January mixed sale to Maximum Yield, agent, for the late Allan J. Hamilton, who established Flying H Thoroughbreds in Ocala in 2005 ... Through New Episode Training Center, agent, Howlett sold Miss Macy Sue for $42,000 at the 2005 OBS June juvenile sale ... Howlett also has bred, alone or in partnership, stakes winners Cozze Mike, Little Lee, Pent Up Kiss, Dinner Affair, Reporter and Giant Gentleman.
