Paul Lo Duca


  • Born: April 12, 1972 in Brooklyn, N.Y., but grew up in Glendale, Ariz.
  • Family: daughter, Bella Lucia
  • Education: Played two seasons of baseball at Glendale Community College before transferring to Arizona State University in 1992 where he was an All-American, All Pac-10 and named Sporting News College Player of the Year for 1993
  • Professional Background: Lo Duca is a four-time all-star Major League Baseball catcher. He was drafted out of ASU by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1993, breaking through with them at the major league level in 1998. He played for Los Angeles until being traded in 2004 to the Florida Marlins. He moved on to the New York Mets in 2006, and has signed with the Washington Nationals for the 2008 season 
  • Racing Background: He has been a lifelong racing fan, and started buying his own horses in 2004. He named one of his first horses "Weej" after his father Paul Sr.'s nickname Luigi, given to him because he looked like the character from the Super Mario Brothers video game. He has dabbled mainly with claimers while moving from the West to the East Coast ... His best horse currently is Grace Anatomy, a Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies prospect he owns in partnership with Suarez Racing and Little Feather Racing ... He, along with several other high-profile athletes and celebrities, is a partner in the Little Red Feather Racing syndicate that owns the filly Guts Game.
