Matthew Green


  • Family: Son of Richard Green, founder and chairman of Richard Green (Fine Paintings) Ltd, proprietor of three London art galleries. In the 2007 Sunday Times Rich List his father was rated the 834th richest person in Britain with a personal fortune estimated at $160 million
  • Professional Background: Deputy managing director of Richard Green (Fine Paintings), which has annual sales of $150 million and in June 2007 paid $7.25 million for an L S Lowry painting at auction in London. He is director of its Victorian and European Paintings division

  • Racing Background: The company has been involved in ownership for many years and enjoyed its biggest success when John Ferneley won the 2000 Lincoln Handicap
  • Racing Career: Matthew sold the dual 2006 group 1-winner, Dutch Art, after he won a maiden race at Windsor for him and sold a majority share in Excellent Art at the end of his 2-year-old career to Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith ... Green's first representation in the Breeders' Cup, Excellent Art finished second in the 2007 Mile.
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: In 2007, he had more than 30 horses in training in Britain and Ireland with 15 different trainers including Barry Hills, David Elsworth, Mick Easterby, Mark Wallace, Gary Moore and Neville Callaghan.
