  • Professional Background: Retired two years ago from the roofing and sheet metal contracting business in Illinois
  • Racing Background: Has been involved in racing since 1979 when he bought his first horse
  • Racing Career: Bred and raced Illinois-breds with modest success until he hooked up with trainer Tom Proctor in 1992 ... "Tommy got me out of the Illinois-bred business and moved me into Kentucky-breds," Sukley says ... Proctor has had five horses for the Sukley in 2007 ... Purim, on his way to the Breeders' Cup Mile after a "Win and You're In" victory at Keeneland, is by far the best horse that Sukley, who also is the breeder, has ever had ... Through a three-year campaign to date, Purim has won a graded race each year – the G3 Arlington Classic in 2005, the G3 Razorback in ’06, and the recently-run G1 Shadwell Mile. It was the first grade 1 win for Sukley ... Has a half-brother to Purim, Calamus, who is expected to return to the races from injury early in 2008 ... Sukley gives Proctor credit for finding the Lord At War mare Kirsteena, who won or placed in eight of 12 starts before retiring and going on to produce Purim and Calamus ... This will be the Sukley's first trip to the Breeders' Cup
