Ryan Moore

  • Weight: 118.
  • Born: Sept. 18, 1983
  • Residence: Hungerford, Berkshire, England
  • Family: His father Gary is a trainer and his brother, Jamie, is a steeplechase jockey.
  • Is sure to retain his British Jockeys' Championship in 2009 as, up to Oct. 21 he was 35 clear of the field on the 142-winner mark.
  • Enjoyed his first major Hong Kong success when Presvis won the 2009 Audemars Piguet QEII Cup. Has won five Group 1 races during the 2009 European season – the Coronation Cup (on Ask),  Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Spanish Moon), King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Conduit), the Prix Maurice de Gheest (King's Apostle) and the Dehusts Stakes (Beethoven – a rare ride for Irish champion trainer Aidan O'Brien).
  • He regained his title in 2008 with 142 winners. However, prior to his Breeders' Cup Turf triumph aboard Conduit, his first BC mount, his only Group 1 success during the season came aboard Linngari in the Bayerisches Zuchtrennen in Munich, Germany.
  • The defense of his title was derailed before it had began when a broken right arm suffered at Lingfield in March 2007 cost him the first three months of the season. But a brilliant tactical ride aboard Notnowcato in the Eclipse Stakes on July 7 proved that he was back in top form and he underlined his well-being with a superb four-win day at the prestigious Glorious Goodwood meeting. One of those wins was in the G1 Sussex Stakes aboard Jeremy.
  • By years end in 2007, Moore had major mounts all over the world and it was announced that he would be retained by Sir Michael Stoute for the upcoming season.
  • In autumn 2007, he enjoyed three more Group 1 wins on Echelon, in Ireland, Scintillo, in Italy, and Allegretto, in France. He finished the year in third place in the jockeys' championship with 126 wins from 667 rides.
  • In 2004, he broke the 100-barrier for the first time, riding 132 winners, but it was not until 2006 that he really broke into the big time. He earned his a first group 1 success, aboard Notnowcato in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York, helping him to a career best tally of 182 wins and his first jockeys' title, 49 clear of Frankie Dettori.
  • His first flat winner came on the all-weather track in January 2002, when he rode Marwell’s Kris to victory for Belgian trainer E C Chopin. That year, Moore rode 39 winners from 386 rides and 2003 was even better, his total of 52 winners was enough to clinch the apprentice title.
  • Ryan initially rode over jumps, winning on his very first ride, Mersey Beat, trained by his father, at Towcester on May 18, 2000.
