  • Professional Background: Has spent his working life in sales, first with Ashland Oil, which he retired early from, and now with a smaller company in his region ... His specialty is industrial chemicals
  • Racing Background: Been in racing for about 28 years ... Got together with Dr. Harvey Diamond and Jim Shircliff a couple of years ago when they were clients of trainer Bill Million in Kentucky ... The three decided to pool their resources and try to upgrade their racing stock ... "We hit it off great together," he said
  • Racing Career: They decided eventually to move their horses into the barn of Mike Maker, who bought Cherokee Triangle for them ... The colt was bought at a Maryland sale after the trio told the trainer if he saw anything that fits into their budget that he should buy it ... Earlier successes for Koenig were Steel Petal, who was an allowance winner, and Set to Sparkle, who won three claiming races at Keeneland ... "I know those were only claiming races, but to win at Keeneland is a great thrill," he says ... Of Cherokee Triangle's big victory in the Louisiana Downs' Sunday Silence Stakes and a possible starter in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, the co-owner says, This is a dream come true. I pinch myself every morning and think ‘After all these years, is this really something that's going to happen?
