  • Racing Background: Mestrandrea became interested in ownership after meeting and talking with Gary Stevens and several other riders and agents when his company provided on-set catering for the movie “Seabiscuit.”
  • Racing Career: Mestrandrea enjoyed instant success as an owner in 2004, winning his first race with a claimer named Court Shenanigans ... Mestrandrea says there were 118 people in the winner’s circle after that race, a group which included actor Scott Baio, director and writer Wes Craven and Joe Caracciolo, executive producer of “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3” ... Mestrandrea now has two horses, including Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Maryfield ... Claimed for $50,000 in 2006, Maryfield has blossomed into a multiple graded stakes winner for Mestrandrea and partners Mark Gorman and Jim Perry ... “This horse has been a great gift,” he said about Maryfield ... Mestrandrea said he has won 18 of 50 races as an owner, spanning 2004 through mid-October 2007.
