Professional Background: Worked for IBM before entering the equine insurance and bloodstock business. He owned Bluegrass Bloodstock Agency in the 1990s before buying Hopewell Farm in 1997. He continues to own the agency, which is housed in the main offices on the farm.
Racing Background: Tronz had a favorite uncle in Lexington, Ky., Art Baumohl, who encouraged his love of racing while growing up ... Baumohl had a racing show on WLAP radio in Lexington for 18 years ... Trontz spent summers while in college working as a groom at Southern California racetracks then chose University of Kentucky for grad school to be near his uncle ... Once he established his bloodstock agency he grew the business through stallion shares and by claiming broodmare prospects off the track
Breeding/Racing Operation: Hopewell is a full-service breeding, foaling and sales prep operation encompassing nearly 600 acres along Frankfort and Pisgah Pikes in Midway, Ky. The farm stands five stallions, headed by 1997 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Skip Away along with David Copperfield, Najran, Blazonry and The White Fox ... There are approximately 150 mares on the farm, of which about half are owned by clients.
