  • Family: William and Sandra are the parents Brian and Todd. Shay is Brian's wife and they have daughters Avery Kate and Halory Elle.
  • Professional Background: William is a retired orthopedic surgeon living with his wife, Sandra, in Lexington, Ky. Brian is a gastroenterologist living with his wife, Shay, and their two daughters in Louisville, Ky. Todd is director of marketing for The Wine Group and lives in Chicago
  • Racing Background: The family raced Standardbreds in the Chicago area during the ’70s and ’80s until making the switch to Thoroughbreds in the ’90s ... William had performed surgery on the shoulder of trainer Jere R. Smith Sr. ... Had horses with him, including several minor stakes winners, for about 10 years until his death in January 2004 ... Moved to Lexington in 2003 and began the venture into the breeding side of the business.   
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: William and Sandra, who moved to Lexington in 2003, operate the racing stable with their children, hence the moniker for their stable name, Five-D ... For a small operation, they have had great success ... Among the first horses they bred was Strike the Deal, who they sold for $40,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July Yearling Sale. The Van Nistlerooy colt went onto to be come a Group 2 winner in Europe and finished fourth in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf in 2007 ... Shortly after the Breeders' Cup, the Five-Ds sold his mare, Countess Gold, for $850,000, a session topper during the 2007 November Breeding Stock sale at Keeneland ...  Among their most successful racehorses was Honest Venture, who raced 73 times for the family, won 15 races and accumulated earnings of $314,155 ... The Dobozi's traveled to Monmouth Park to watch Strike the Deal and are planning for a second Breeders' Cup trip to Santa Anita to watch him compete in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint in ’09.
