John and Marsha Antonelli


  • Born: John: May 13, 1946 in Michigan; Marsha: June 10, 1952 in Whittier, Cal.
  • Residence: Whittier, Cal. and Santa Ynez, Cal.
  • Professional Background: John owns Association Reproduction Service, which is a digital document imaging company used mainly be those in the legal profession ... Marsha is a retired hospital administrator
  • Racing Background: Both John and Marsha had an interest in horses ... Made their first venture into the sport with a partnership with Tommy Town Thoroughbreds about five years ago       
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: Decided that if they were going to get serious in racing they wanted to concentrate on having a "boutique" operation ... Started going to the sales and learning about breeding ... Marsha says John plans many of the matings ... Their first major success as a breeder has come with La Traviata, undefeated going into the 2007 Breeders' Cup Sprint or Filly & Mare Sprint ... The Antonellis also own a full brother to La Traviata out of the mare Piedras Negras. They had planned on entering him in the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale, but decided to keep him after the success of his sister. He was named Ducane, and is currently in Ocala with J.J. Pletcher, father of trainer Todd Pletcher, who will take over the training in 2008 ... Piedras Negras also has a 2007 colt by Tale of the Cat and gave birth to a colt Bluegrass Cat in 2008 ... The Antonellis keep their horses on their farm in Santa Ynez, although the mares are bred in Kentucky, which is also where all the foals are born ... Their farm is managed by Greg Fanning and the horses that are currently in training are with Greg's uncle Jerry at Santa Anita ... They currently own about 15 total horses.
