Status: Pulled up in distress following her second-place finish in the Kentucky. Injuries to her front ankles were extensive and she had to be euthanized ... She will be buried at the Kentucky Derby Museum, adjacent to Churchill Downs ... The Eight Belles Memorial Fund was established by Thoroughbred Charities of America, and supports the research into racehorse injuries and the retraining of Thoroughbreds for careers
after they retire from the track. Donations of $25,000 each came from the Churchill Downs Foundation and owner Rick Porter. In addition, Churchill is renaming the G3 La Troienne, run on the Derby undercard, in honor of the filly.
