  • Racing Background: Karen Silva became involved in the Quarter Horse business when she married Butch 43 years ago ... The Silvas bred and trained Quarter Horses primarily in the Midwest and were leading Quarter Horse breeders in Michigan for many years
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: They purchased their first Thoroughbred mare in 1980 ... The first horse raced by the Silvas was Kan She Do It, who made 81 starts and earned $56,109 ... Kan She Do It later produced Doing It Reckless, the first stakes winner bred by the Silvas, and who won the 1990 Michigan Futurity ... The Silvas moved to the Ocala area in 1991 and established their 90-acre Hickory Meadows Farm in 1992 in nearby Oxford, Fla. ... They currently have a broodmare band of 20 and breed for the commercial market, as well as race a few ... They sold Breeders' Cup Distaff contender Prop Me Up privately as a two year old after she had made one start for them ... Natural Prop, the dam of Prop Me Up, died in 2004 ... The Silvas also have bred graded stakes winner Hawk's Landing and stakes winner Madam Fireplace.
