Peter J. Callahan


  • Born: Feb. 12, 1942 in New York City
  • Resident: Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
  • Family: three daughters, four grandchildren
  • Primary Business: Semi-retired from the communications and publishing industry. At one time, was the largest shareholder of the National Enquirer as well as principal owner of numerous trade publications
  • Introduction to racing: 12 to 15 years ago, invested in a partnership in New York. Through attrition of the partnership, Callahan wound up being the controlling partner. The broodmares that belonged to the partnership were boarded at Catesby Clay's Runnymede Farm, which is how Callahan began a long-standing relationship with Clay
  • Callahan currently owns a dozen horses in New York in training with Bill Badgett. He also owns six broodmares and their foals in partnership with Runnymede, including Chancey Squaw, the dam of Reach for the Moon.
