London Bridge

London Bridge became the first New York-bred to win a Breeders’ Cup race when he erased a seven-length deficit in the final quarter of a mile to win the 2013 Marathon by a length over Blueskiesnrainbows at Santa Anita. The victory gave trainer Jo Hughes a Breeders’ Cup victory with her first Championships starter and made her the first European female trainer to win a Championship race. It was the first Breeders’ Cup victory and starter for Waratah Thoroughbreds.

Ridden by Mike Smith, London Bridge provided the Hall of Fame rider with the first of his three victories at the 2013 Championships and 18th Breeders’ Cup victory of 20 overall. It was the first victory in the Marathon for Smith. In defeating nine rivals, London Bridge came off an 11-week layoff to secure his first graded stakes victory.
