Game On Dude

There is no horse with more “game” than the aptly named Game On Dude, who was riding five-race win streak since through July following an uncharacteristic seventh-place finish in the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Classic as the heavy favorite. His streak began when first partnered with Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, who ironically was on Drosselmeyer, the horse that caught Game on Dude late in the stretch and denied him the victory in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Somewhat of a late bloomer who did not race as a two-year-old, Game On Dude is improving with age. He flashed his talent early when he finished second in his career debut and then won his second start. A Kentucky Derby hopeful in the spring of 2010, Game On Dude’s connections bypassed the Run for the Roses, but finished fourth in the Belmont Stakes, the final jewel of the Triple Crown. Since that time he has collected 12 victories, include two runnings of the Hollywood Gold Cup and the Santa Anita Handicap.

And, like any good athlete, Game on Dude relies on his coach – Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Baffert, in turn, can call on one of Game on Dude’s owners for “coaching” advice. Included in the partnership group that campaigns the popular gelding is Major League Baseball Executive Joe Torre, the former manager of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
