Alice Springs is on a roll this year, posting her third group one win of the season in the Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket Oct. 1. She also took the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown, Ireland Sept. 10, and the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket July 8. Her 1:34.42 clocking in the Falmouth was a course record for a mile on the turf.
Her only poor showing in that four-race string was an eighth in the Prix Rothschile at Deauville, France July 31.
"It was a bit of a disaster in France," said trainer Aidan O'Brien in a Blood-Horse article. "She went and it was shifty, patchy ground in Deauville. Ryan (Moore) knew she wasn't going to be involved so he just minded her."
The flashy chestnut 3-year-old daughter of Galileo won at first asking last year at two, and has been a factor ever since. Last year, she was graded stakes placed three times in Europe before coming to the United States to contest the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, where she just missed, running second to Catch A Glimpse by three-quarters of a length.
Her strong, late kick and preference for a firm turf course make her a strong contender for either the Breeders' Cup Mile or Filly & Mare Turf.
"She might get further some day but she has a lot of speed,” said O'Brien in that same article. “She's made for the Breeders' Cup on fast ground. We'll look at the Breeders' Cup Mile or something like that. She was a little unlucky in the Breeders' Cup last year.”
The Irish-bred filly was a $928,736 yearling at Tattersalls.
