Miss Temple City

Miss Temple City

If Miss Temple City were a human, she’d be the tomboy demanding to be allowed to play on boys’ teams. No dolls and dresses for this gal.

The 4-year-old filly doesn’t just enjoy playing with the boys — she likes to beat them up. She’s taken them on and taken them down twice already this year in a a Grade One stakes — in the Maker’s 46 Mile in April and the Shadwell Turf Mile Oct. 8, both at Keeneland.

In between those victories, she ran fourth twice and fifth once against her own sex. Lifetime, Miss Temple City has five wins from 14 starts and earnings over $1.2 million.

"She's the best filly I've ever trained,” said trainer Graham Motion after the Shadwell victory. “She's spectacular. My frustration was over the summer when it seemed we got a little lost with her. She had some tough trips. I'm glad the crew talked me into running her here. I think I would have chosen to go the other way (and run against her division in the grade I First Lady). But this was the right thing to do; we took a shot. She's a very special filly."

She has been the leading money-earner for her sire, Temple City, and helped boost him to seventh on the third-crop sire list for this year.
