What A View
What a View
What a View is adaptable both on and off the track. On track, he displayed versatility when winning the Thunder Road Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita in April. Behind the scenes, he received a new but, familiar, trainer following the retirement of his previous trainer Don Warren. What a View is now conditioned by Warren’s longtime assistant Kenny Black, a leading jockey in the early 1980s.
What a View was a proven front-runner before changing tactics in the Thunder Road in which he rallied from off the pace to score his fourth consecutive victory. The streak includes Santa Anita’s Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes (G1) in March. The California-bred has a proven affinity for Santa Anita’s turf on which he is unbeaten in five starts. His other career triumph came on Del Mar’s grass course.
What a View was bred by Old English Rancho, a mainstay of California breeding and racing, which stands several stallions, including their homebred Eclipse Award champion Acclamation and What a View’s sire Vronsky. What a View is co-owned by family members of the late E.W. “Buddy” Johnston, whose father founded Old English Rancho. Johnston passed away in 2015.
