Star Empire (Gb)

Star Empire (GB)

Belinda C. Bateman’s Star Empire enters the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile after two consecutive placings in graded sprint stakes. Trained by Wesley Ward, the son of Australian sprint star and freshman sire Foxwedge (AUS) must stretch out from six furlongs on three weeks’ rest after finishing second behind Theory in the Belmont Futurity on Oct. 15.

Bateman hails from one of the prominent Australian racing families that campaigned Star Empire's sire. The Bateman family also campaigned or co-owned top stars Wandjina and Golden Slipper winner Vancouver. Star Empire is one of three Foxwedge colts the Batemans sent to Ward.

Wesley Ward has only two victories from 27 Breeders’ Cup starts, but was potent the last time the event was hosted by Santa Anita, two years ago. The Keeneland-based conditioner not only won two championship races, but also placed with three other horses.
