Owned by the partnership of Eric Fein, Christopher McKenna, Harris Fein, Guri Singh and Jerry Walia, Syndergaard enters the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile off a dynamite runner-up effort in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont — historically one of the top races in the nation for 2-year-olds. A son of lightning-fast sprinter Majesticperfection, this New York-bred is named for star New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard and trained by another all-star, champion trainer Todd Pletcher.
Syndergaard began his career with two dominant victories at Saratoga. In his second start, he won the Funny Cide Stakes for NY-bred juveniles. Following that 10 1/4-length romp in the mud, Syndergaard moved out of the restricted ranks and up in class — the Champagne was his next race. Running through the first half mile in a quick 44.63 seconds and the first six furlongs in 1:08.76, the chestnut colt refused to give up and fought to the wire only to lose by the narrowest of margins to Practical Joke.
Co-owner Fein previously owned the top sprinting mare C C’s Pal, a multiple graded stakes winner, and Tampa Bay Derby winner Big Truck, who ran unplaced in the 2008 Kentucky Derby.
Pletcher is a seven-time recipient of the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer and has nine Breeders’ Cup trophies, including two for wins in the Juvenile.
