When she was a young horse, Irish Jasper was remarkably unremarkable.
As a yearling at Kentucky’s Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale, she brought a final bid of just $12,000. In her early training, she was competent but not brilliant. With moderate expectations, she was entered in a maiden race for $25,000 claimers late in her 2-year-old season.
She cruised to victory at Parx Racing in that initial outing and never raced for a claiming price again. By the end of 2014, she had boosted her value by becoming a stakes winner.
As she progressed further as a 3-year-old, Irish Jasper came to the attention of those seeking quality fillies with residual broodmare value and she was sold privately to W. S. Farish and David Mackie after winning the Victory Ride Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park July 4, 2015. In her first start for them she was fourth in the Longines Test Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.
Irish Jasper stamped her ticket to the Breeders’ Cup by winning the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) at Keeneland October 8.
