Add Heat, third in the $250,000 California Cup Classic on Oct. 5, will be supplemented to the $500,000 Breeders' Cup Marathon on Oct. 25, trainer Barry Abrams said over the weekend.
Owned by breeder Madeline Auerbach and partners, Add Heat has won 3 of 34 starts and $309,210. Abrams admits that Add Heat will be an outsider in the BC Marathon, but he's hoping to benefit from a home-track advantage.
"He loves the track and hopefully he'll like the distance," he said.
The supplemental entry fee will cost $45,000. "We've got to finish third to break even," Abrams said.
Add Heat, 5, has yet to win a stakes. He was second in the Windy Sands Handicap at Del Mar on Sept. 1, his best result in a stakes this year.
Bob Black Jack on comeback trail
Bob Black Jack, the world-record holder at six furlongs who was 16th in the Kentucky Derby in May, is being prepared for a comeback this fall.
Saturday at Hollywood Park, Bob Black Jack breezed a half-mile in 50 seconds. Trainer James Kasparoff is hoping to start Bob Black Jack in the $100,000 Vernon Underwood Stakes at six furlongs at Hollywood Park on Nov. 23.
"It seems like everything is good with the horse," Kasparoff said. "He's been back for about a month."
A winner of 3 of 8 starts and $442,925 for owners Jeff Harmon and Tim Kasparoff, Bob Black Jack won the Sunshine Millions Dash last January, running six furlongs in 1:06.53. He later finished third in the San Felipe Stakes and second in the Santa Anita Derby.
