Catch a Glimpse was sold in the Keeneland sales ring as a yearling in September of 2013. Just over a year later, she was back at Keeneland, but this time in the winner’s circle and as a Breeders’ Cup champion. A Kentucky-bred daughter of City Zip, Catch a Glimpse was unbeaten on the turf in three starts as a 2-year-old, culminating with a three-quarters of a length victory in the one mile $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies for owners Gary Barber, Michael Ambler, and Jeff Begg of Windway Farms. Under jockey Florent Geroux, Catch a Glimpse, the 6-1 fourth choice in the race, broke well from third post position in the 14 horse field and stayed close to pacesetter Ruby Notion through the first six furlongs. Geroux then moved Catch a Glimpse just off the rail and forged her to the front in mid-stretch, holding off the late charge of runner-up and 3-1 favorite Alice Springs (IRE). Catch a Glimpse covered the mile in 1:39.08 over a yielding turf course. The victory was especially gratifying for Catch a Glimpse’s trainer Mark Casse, who won his first Breeders’ Cup race after 25 attempts. It feels good. It feels really good," Casse said afterward. "When this is all you've ever done for your entire life ... this is my entire life. This is important." Part owner Begg said he could tell Catch a Glimpse would be quick when he spotted her at the Keeneland sale. “I saw her at Keeneland last year [at the September yearling sale] and she looked fast standing still,” Begg said. “I wound up buying her (for $75,000) and then Mike Ambler and Gary Barber bought a piece of her. She always looked like she’d probably be headed to the turf with her pedigree and she proved us right.” Catch a Glimpse earned a spot in the starting gate for the Juvenile Fillies Turf by winning the one mile Natalma Stakes (G2) at Woodbine on Sept. 12 by five lengths. Her prize package in the “Win and You’re In” event included expenses for shipping and no entry fees. The victory was the second in three career starts for Catch a Glimpse. After a respectable fifth in a 5 ½ furlong maiden race, which was taken off the turf and run on a sloppy main track at Saratoga on July 30, Catch a Glimpse was a front-running winner on Woodbine’s turf on Aug. 22 in her prep for the Natalma.
