Highland Reel (IRE)
Irish-bred Highland Reel has not only been making serious money, the 4-year-old Galileo colt has racked up enough frequent flyer miles to fly first class for free the rest of his life.
Paying for first class wouldn’t be an issue either, as he’s averaged over $283,000 in purse money every time he enters the starting gate.
The globe-trotting turf star has raced in Hong Kong, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, England, France, and on his home turf in Ireland.
Highland Reel has earned an astounding $5.1 million from 18 starts. His six wins — five of them in group or graded stakes — have come on three different continents, and he’s run second or third in graded stakes on two continents and in three countries.
Among his scores are the G1 Qipco King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in England; last year’s G1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington in the U.S.; and the G1 Longines Hong Kong Vase at Sha-Tin in Hong Kong. In 2015, he ran third in the G1 William Hill Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Australia, and racked up seconds in G1 stakes in both England and France. Most recently, he was second to defending Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf champion Found in the G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly.
