Ghostzapper

Ghostzapper

Breeders’ Cup Champion
Jockey:
J. Castellano
Trainer:
R. Frankel
Owner:
Stronach Stables (Frank Stronach)
Breeder:
Frank H. Stronach

His greatness limited only by the persistent injury which plagued his career, the brilliant bay son of 1998 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Awesome Again took his place among racing’s greats with election to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2012. In all, Ghostzapper won nine of 11 starts and nearly $3.5 million in purses for owner Frank Stronach and late Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel. Ghostzapper raced at 2, 3, 4 and 5 and was never more sensational than in a 2004 season which ended with his being named champion older horse and Horse of the Year.

Though his early success had been sprinting, he won the Grade 2 Tom Fool, Grade 3 Iselin and Grade 1 Woodward before leading from start to finish to take the 1 ¼-mile Breeders’ Cup Classic by three lengths in 1:59.02, a stakes and Lone Star Park track record.
