Wilko

Breeders’ Cup Champion
Jockey:
L. Dettori
Trainer:
J. Noseda
Owner:
J. Paul Reddam & Mrs. Susan Roy
Breeder:
Ro Parra

A son of 1998 Classic winner Awesome Again, Wilko shocked the racing world with his three-quarter length victory in the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at odds of 28-to-1. Having made 10 starts in England, the Juvenile was Wilko’s first race in North America and first on a conventional dirt surface. He trailed by more than a length before rallying down the stretch to defeat Afleet Alex, a horse that would go on to win the 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes.

Purchased by J. Paul Reddam prior to his Breeders’ Cup victory, Wilko went winless in his last 18 races, but finished third in four graded stakes including the Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity in 2004, the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in 2005 and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap in 2006.
