Payson Stud Inc.

Purchased for $2.15 million as a yearling in 2001, the son of 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew had a brief, but brilliant, career, going undefeated in four lifetime starts, all at the age of 2, by a combined margin 15 ¾ lengths.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert for Satish Sanan’s Padua Stable, Vindication burst on the scene with a 5 ½-length maiden victory at Del Mar in July 2002. Six weeks later, he posted his first stakes win in the Grade 3 Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes at Turfway Park. Second choice in a field of 14 despite his unblemished record, Vindication cruised to a 2 ¾-length triumph in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, clinching the Eclipse Award as 2-year-old male champion.
